Nick Hampshire is a Kent-based artist, art dealer and picture restorer with more than 45 years’ experience working with art.
Painting has always been at the heart of Nick’s career. Inspired by landscape, light, colour and atmosphere, he has developed his own distinctive style while spending a lifetime studying and working with the paintings of others. He has exhibited his work, including his Colour in Landscape exhibition, and has played an active role in the local art community, including serving as President of Maidstone Art Society.
Through NHP Paintings, Nick brings three strands together: painting, dealing and restoration.

Picture restoration
Bringing oil paintings back to life
Nick is an experienced picture restorer specialising in oil paintings. Over time, varnish yellows and darkens, dirt builds up and damage can creep in. Careful cleaning and restoration can reveal colours and detail that have been hidden for decades, while keeping everything that gives a painting its character.
Every painting is different. Get in touch with a photograph and a few details, and Nick will be happy to advise on what your picture needs.
Surface cleaning
Gentle removal of dirt, grime and smoke deposits that dull a picture over the years.
Varnish removal & revarnishing
Taking off aged or discoloured varnish and applying a fresh protective coat, so the true colours show again.
Extensive restoration
More involved work for paintings that need it, carried out with care to preserve the original.
Advice & assessment
An honest view of a painting’s condition and the options, drawing on decades as a dealer and restorer.
